Cast Away!
Now it is time for the two year project with our European partners: The Institution Saint-Joseph from Le Havre in France and The Institut Emile Gryzon from Brussels in Belgium!
Kungsholmens Gymnasium is one of four major public high schools in Stockholm’s center. We already have a partnership with our friends at Saint-Jo in organizing an exchange program between the European classes from Le Havre and the International Section in Stockholm.
This year will deepen our cooperation as we will be collaborating in the Comenius project on harbours in Europe – GEOPORT. A third partner has joined us for this two year adventure, The Institut Emile Gryzon of Anderlecht in Belgium. Our friends from Brussels have a vast experience of European projects, notably through a Grundtvig project.
The Launch of the Project
From October 14 – October 18, 2009, a delegation of five teachers visited their French and Wallon friends in Le Havre for a first introductory “reunion”. In the halls of the international meeting, a very warm and creative group emerged and many fruitful ideas issued forth. Our French speaking colleagues inspired us to find new paths for our common theme, GEOPORT. We also celebrated our promising collaboration with a reception after having signed the Certificate of Partnership. On the photo to the write: Mr. Demeiller (Institution Saint-Joseph), Mr. Liétard (Institut Emile Gryzon) and Mr. Orfèvre (Kungsholmens Gymnasisum).
Towards New Horizons
What are we going to do? First of all, we will present our ideas to our students as soon as we come back from fall-break. At our first meeting, we decided that our main tasks will follow multiple paths, among others:
- The harbour of Stockholm – Frihamnen
- Tourism
- The Ferries between Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Baltic countries.
- The archipelago of Stockholm
- The marine biodiversity in the waters of Stockholm
- Poetry and art
Next Step: May 2010

Our Belgian and French colleagues accompanied by about 10 students will come to visit us in the beginning of May to put our work together. During our studies and projects in Stockholm, we will develop our knowledge of our near environment and it will be with pride and joy that we show and present our city and harbour to our European friends!
The Comenius Team at Kungsholmens Gymnasium
invites you to follow how this project evolves on this site which will be updated progressively!
